The Former Lady of Chic is back
Alfa Anderson, Former Lead Singer of
Chic, Releases New Single
Alfa Anderson, former
lead singer of the platinum selling group, Chic, has released a new single,
appropriately titled, Former Lady of
Chic. The single is the brain child of her sons, Eluriah and Taurie (aka
The Orkastrator) who collaborated with her husband, Eluriel Tinkr Barfield, to
write and produce a song that documents her contribution to the music
industry. People may not know or remember that it is her
voice you hear on Chic’s chart-topping hits like Le Freak, I Want Your Love and Good Times. Former Lady of Chic is her calling card.
There are lots of
“former lady” titles that can be used to describe Alfa, notable among them is
her onstage and studio work with the great Luther Vandross. “Luther mentored my artistic growth and was
very instrumental in helping develop the Chic vocal sound.”
With the resurgence
of classic 80’s dance music, Alfa finds herself once again in the
spotlight. Earlier this year, she was
interviewed for a Nile Rodgers segment about the disco era for TV One’s Unsung. That segment will appear next season. She was recently interviewed for the Diana
Ross anniversary release of the Chic-produced album (Diana) on which Alfa sang background and for the newly released
Chic compilation Up All Night:The Greatest Hits. Earlier this month, Christian John Wikane
interviewed her for PopMatters. That interview and the review of her single, Former Lady of Chic, will appear later
this summer at www.popmatters.com. In
his upcoming book, tentatively titled Original
Disco Legends, Jim Arena devotes an entire chapter to Alfa and her work in
the industry. The book is scheduled to
be released in the spring of 2014.
Will she make an appearance at Worlds End Music's THE Festival; watch this space.

Back on The Radio
THE Festival is truly going global with the launch of Worlds End Music Radio on 12.8.13. The company http://theglobalfest.com/ have talked about this move for nearly a year and although Ellis Manhattan Radio was still broadcasting it was not clear if both could be run simultaneously.
When EM Music Radio ceased broadcasting there was an opportunity and it seemed like a good time to start.
This news comes at the same time that THE Festivals Indiegogo campaign has just been launched http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-festival/x/1796943
The URL for the new station has not been released as EM Productions are still running test transmissions.
We wish the team the best of luck and will report back on the launch and the party here on Ellis Manhattan Music.

This track was originally penned for Anthony McCann but the artist never added his vocals to the track. The band felt the track was too good to be unfinished so completed the vocals and Master of the track for general release.
There was no specific album for this track to end up on as the bands forthcoming album - Above & Beyond was not targeted for this or the other Seasonal session tracks. The band said that these tracks were one-off works and that they should stand up on their own.
2013 promises to be focusing on the new album and the band and less on the collaborations which dominated the last 2 years.
Rj Samuels said
if we knew that the last 2 years were going to be anything like this, we would have thought long and hard about forming the band in the first place.

New Age Connection
In the light of new music and diversity we have agreed to work with Venezuelan, New Age, musician and writer Jorge Angel Botoca Barea. The agreement came out of the blue with Jorge looking for Management and our production company looking for a different king of musical challenge.
Even though Jorge is not represented at this time, his music is a subtle balance between New Age and Symphonic and I feel it will not be long before his music is licensed. His arrangements are crisp and clever. He intimated his keenness to work with Ellis Manhattan via Rj Samuels Management.
We would love the opportunity to take Jorge out of his comfort zone and encourage him to think about his work visually and how it may transfer to film or video. We are very excited about the collaboration and see some interesting work coming forward over the next months. We wish Jorge the best of luck and a prosperous association with the company.
